I figured that was what happened. I've done, and seen other people do it.

Somebody responded to a Kili post from about 5.5 years ago in
rec.food.cooking the other day and everybody immediately thought it was a
troll.

But my first reaction and instinct is just what you describe happened, and
I'm sticking with that. I'm betting on the longshot.
