My fabulous dinner
I wanted to make soup ("pea" and "ham" aka lentils and bacon bones). I
couldn't find bacon bones/hocks, usually they are in the deli but they
weren't so presumed they were out of them. In the chicken section (after
discounting lamb shanks because of the ridiculous price) I spotted
turkey shanks, 4 huge ones for $7. So I took those then noticed next to
them were the bacon bones! Still with the thought of pea and ham flavour
I decided to get a few of the meatier bones to add a smoky taste.
Fast forward to the kitchen where I have cut up the veggies and realise
this won't go anywhere near fitting into the slow cooker. Dragged out 2
large oval pyrex dishes and put half of everything in each (veggies,
large can diced tomatoes, chicken stock, tomato paste, quartered new
potatoes, some red lentils and the meats). 2 hours later and with an
overwhelmingly fabulous smell I open the oven to find my "soup" is now
closer to a casserole. No one commented on the turkey legs so I presume
they just thought it was chicken on steroids, lol. Turkey isn't as big
here as in the US.
