You might consider a two-part filtering process: I download headers and mark
for reading those which are *candidates* for my perusal. Then I download the
messages themselves and BEFORE READING ANY OF THEM apply a second set of
filters which marks as read all posts which contain obnoxious phrases like
(for example), "Andy wrote".
