I've got an order in for a fresh free-range turkey for $1.79/lb. The
farmer has opened a small store on his property and in addition to
fresh and frozen turkeys he raises himself, sells free range chicken,
lamb, grass-fed beef and heritage pork raised by other local farmers.
Plus organic produce and home-made baked goods and candies. It's
working out pretty well for everyone, he says. He had a little
difficulty ringing up up our order when we were there and apologized,
saying, "I'm a turkey farmer, not a cashier!"
