I lost my landline during the quake of '89... and our cell phone
didn't work either. A neighbor a few blocks away could call out with
her cell phone different carrier), so she invited a lot of the
neighbors to her house. Her mother in the Midwest took names and
numbers of the people we needed her to call and let know that we were
okay and that most of the city didn't look like what they were showing
on television.
