Actually the 1 cup of sugar goes into the cake and all of the lemon peel
from the 1 lemon. While the cake is baking, squeeze all the juice out of
the lemon and mix with an additional 1/2 cup granulated sugar. Return to
the oven, after spooning the mixture over the cake and bake 5 minutes
more with the glaze on it. It seems to soak up into the cake, and has a
strong citrus flavor.
