Oh, I'll elaborate. There are cells in the duodenum that send a
signal to the pyloric sphincter to release stomach contents more
slowly when they detect the presence of free fatty acids that have
carbon chains at least 12 carbons long. Caprylic acid (C:10) does not
delay stomach emptying, but lauric acid (C:12) does. That is also the
divide between those fatty acids that travel directly to the liver,
where they are processed into ketones, and the larger ones that are
absorbed into the lymphatic system. I imagine you're laughing your
ass off by about now ; -)
