"cheese" can be used for various spreads, nothing to do with dairy
cheese.
More usually, a "fruit cheese" such as damson cheese, a fruit
preserve thick enough to cut. Or head cheese, a meat spread made from pigs
head. They are somewhat archaic.

Nut cheeses are vegan nut spreads.
