For Colorado, I was thinking the Fool's Gold Loaf, which is a loaf of
Italian bread that is sliced down the middle and has a jar of peanut
butter, a jar of jelly and a pound of fried bacon on it. It was the
sandwich that was so good that Elvis Presley used to fly from
Graceland to the Denver airport, where he would be met at the tarmac
by a guy from the sandwich shop with a sack of these sandwiches and
they would eat them on the way back to Memphis. It's no wonder E died
of a massive heart attack at 42.
Elvis could also figure into the sandwich from Tennessee, which could
be the fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
I live in South Carolina, and the unofficial state sandwich is
probably the chili-cheeseburger, which of course is a chili without
beans, and is topped with mustard and pickles, although I skip on the
pickles.
