The recent thread about Thermapen got me interested in them. In use,
they seem to be a nice item, but the price is a bit steep. I was
looking for an item on Amazon and saw the Taylor Five Star 9867FDA
model that looks very much the same at half the price. I ordered one.
I've used it a half dozen times now. The best feature is the speed.
It does not replace the probe type units for checking on a roast or
things in the smoker, but the thin probe and fast response make it
easier to check on the grill items like steaks and sausages.

Sure, I've cooked for decades without one, but it is a nice tool to
have. And at a better price than the other brand. Yes, it is made in
China.
