Compared to who?
I live in the boonies, so don't have the shopping opportunities of you
living in urban areas. Both my local towns together don't add up to
10K pop. Yet, I can get bulk spices ---fairly fresh, near as I can
tell---- at 2 stores between them. Both these stores are small health
food stores and rarely does any spice they carry exceed $1 per oz,
both whole or ground. I jes bought 7-8 spices, yesterday, most of
them at least 2 oz. Total cost, $13! Yeah plus gas, but I hadda go
to town anyway.
There ain't a Penzey's, Dollar Store, or Walmart on this planet that
can even get close to these prices. ANYTHING in a jar is gonna cost
waaay more than that . Last time I figured up the full ounce
price of an itty-bitty jar of Schillings sage --the pedestrian
label--, it was over $30 oz!!! I think you folks might do yourselves
a favor and check out yer local health food store, cuz Walmart is
certainly not doing you any favors in the spice line.
