My wife was a teacher and she worked hard. I was on a compressed work
week, working 7 am to 4:30. Sometimes we car pooled and she would drop
me off at my office before 7 and proceed to school, and then I would
have to wait for her. I only worked 4 days a week but she did 5. Then
she had work to do at home, at least two hours every night and then at
least a another half day on weekends. She had work to keep her busy
through at least half of the Christmas and spring breaks. She had a
week or two of work after the end of the school year and again before
the next term started up. They may only have 6 hours a day in the class
room but between lesson planning, preparation, marking and record
keeping, there is usually at least that much more to do after hours.
