Default WalMart and Pickles

Slightly related. I wandered into a store called "World Market" the
other day and discovered that they still make Bosco. I'm fairly certain
that I haven't seen Bosco in this area in thirty years or more. It's one
of those stores where you could fill a gift basket with odds and ends
that would leave recipients scratching their heads. I'm surprised that
they didn't have monkey meat in a can that you used to be able to buy in
Reno at the only delicatessen here in the sixties. There hasn't been a
deli like it since around here.
Unrefrigerated hanging meat of all sorts, an open hogshead of pickles,
room temperature cheeses, an unforgettable aroma and the best sandwiches
I ever ate, all from a small storefront. My memory must be boring to
those of you who still experience that pleasure. It's gone from here.
Yeah, Tony's Delicatessen, just up the street from the Mapes Hotel. I
can't even imagine the delis that New York City, Chicago and Milwaukee
had back then.
