IMHO, we elect politicians so we don't have to figure out every issue
for ourselves - we have an obseity epidemic in our country and if Mike
Bloomberg thinks this is a reasonable way to attack the problem, I'm
willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The race card is ridiculous - I suspect obesity is also worse among
lower economic classes and there is, unfortunately, a connection between
race and economic class, and besides, if you're not going to target the
people who have the problem, what's the point?

As far as I'm concerned, they can ban soda altogether - useless stuff,
IMHO.

I remember, when our oldest was very young, around six months or a year,
we started giving him watered down fruit juice because we thought it was
good for him and he drank it more than plain water. It turned out to
have the opposite effect of soda - he drank it so much that he didn't
eat as much, and he actually lost weight at a time when he should have
been gaining it. Our pediatrician read us the riot act - my point:
sugar water is a thing that messes with the human body in bad ways. I
avoid it, and I also avoid fruit juice for the same reason unless it's
freshly squeezed and, even then, I have it only rarely.

Rant over.
