It's common enough in Japanese restaurants to just pick up a soup bowl
with both hands and sip from it, contrary to what "Ma mammy telt me".
Yes, either chopsticks or a spoon are needed when the soup contains
vegetables, noodles or meats. I won't go into making enthusiastic sounds
either.
