Think about it, fruit flies don't spontaneously generate, they come
from fruit fly eggs. They come in on produce you buy, and just from
what I have seen, they hang around the bananas or the red onions.
They seem to be the favorites. That's just my observation.
So unless you have some fruit fly egg source in your house, they are
hitching a ride on your groceries.
