The only thing I would want would be something that is
not sweet - ice water or unsweetened iced tea. I never could
understand how anyone can drink sweetened beverages with
a dessert like pie, cake, or ice cream, or even pancakes
for breakfast.

I don't think wine would go at all and certainly not beer -
yuck! However you could have different drinks to go with the
appetizers, then switch to ice water or tea with the ice cream.
