You are dead right. I ws the only one in the cast and probably the
audience who understood the French and knew it made no sense.

It was a nightmare to memorize those lines as they were not in the
English I speak. The rest of the cast were not terribly good and the
director was useless.

I had to faint dead away to the floor twice and jump on a piece of
furniture and deliver an incantation. A very "athletic" role for a
senior lady, but I was, they tell me, great.

I had promised a dear friend with terminal cancer that I'd read for the
part. I did the play in her memory and dedicated my performance to her.
She was truly a blyth spirit.
