Yep. Whole Foods is always busy here. Always! But what you don't see? A
customer with a full cart. Not even a half full cart. Not ever. Like me,
most people seem to go in to get one or two things that they can't get
elsewhere. Like a vegan donut. And I could live without those.
They also seem to get the people who are in there just to steal food. Like
the guy who salted and ate a hard boiled egg from the salad bar right there
in front of us! Or the ones who get a bowl of food to eat in there.
Yes, they sell Tom's shoes and some clothing but... We have so many other,
better, cheaper places to shop in this area.
PCC is the same concept but smaller. Better produce, no salad bar but
probably as much prepared foods including gelato and hot pizza. Almost
everything they sell is organic and they cater to people with celiac and
food allergies. Much better prices on most things.
Then there is Central Market. They offer the best of both worlds. Cheap
non-organic stuff and mainstream things like Fritos. They also cater to
people with celiac and food allergies and have a salad bar, other food bars
and some prepared food, although perhaps not as much as Whole Foods. They
do not have pizza.
Then there is Granolas. They seem to no longer sell prepared foods although
they did for a little while. Just one small case of them. They do have a
small freezer of vegan and gluten free stuff. And a few aisles of shelf
stable things, mainly for those on a special diet. Mostly they sell
supplements. I do not know how they stay in business. They are within
walking distance of Central Market, even for a disabled person like me.
They sell most of the same things although they do have some books and gift
type items that Central Market does not have.
There is also a Super Supplements close to Whole Foods.
And *all* of the grocery stores are selling more and more gluten free and
organic foods. Winco doesn't have too much in the way of organics but they
do have some. Frankly I am seeing less need to buy organic. I used to be
really big on that but... There is so much crap around us otherwise. It's
in the dirt and the rain water and that's bound to get into the organic
stuff even if the farmer doesn't add anything. *shrugs*
But... There is a small percentage of the population who seems to think if
it is more expensive, it is better. I know people who will buy some sort of
mainstream item, say... Del Monte canned green beans and they will think
they have a better product if they pay $1.89 for a can rather than $1.29 at
some other store. I don't get it.
