On 7/27/2004 9:17 PM Ted shuffled out of his cave and grunted these
great (and sometimes not so great) words of knowledge:

The discoloring is caused by the heat from the self cleaning cycle.
It is not so much the discoloring you need to worry about as the
DELAMINATION of the vinyl coating on the doors and/or surfaces.
The majority of cabinet doors these days have a vinyl or vinyl type
laminate over all the fancy woodworking to make it easy to keep clean.
Unless it is a plain flat surface, odds are it has a laminate on it.

We had the kitchen done over 1 1/2 years ago - new appliances (double
wall ovens, cook top, hood ) and new cabinets and counter. The heat
from the self cleaning cycle caused the vinyl lamination on the bottom
of the cabinet doors above the top oven to come loose/off. The small
section between the ovens also had the vinyl start coming loose. This
was all covered under warranty (thankfully).

The cause was the extreme heat from the self cleaning cycle.

The cure for the cabinet doors was to make sure they were open before
doing the self clean cycle and for about an hour afterwards.

Unfortunately, nothing can be done about the section between the ovens.
We can either replace it periodically or not use the self clean cycle
on the bottom oven.
