The old versions (MC 4 is the latest one that runs on the Mac OS) will not
work with Mac OS X. MC4 predates OSX by at least 4 years!

I refuse to upgrade to OS X (am running 9.0.4) because of some legacy
programs, like Mastercook, that are not upgradeable to OS X.

I'm afraid you are outta luck.
