Huh? Are you sure you use Facebook? It said and I quote: When you
*comment on a post*, you can link to someone in your response by
following the same steps as above.

IOW it's a thread and you are replying to a post, probably to someone
upstream. FB doesn't do subthreads, it's just one long conversation.
If you comment on a friend's post, there are often many people
involved that you don't know because they are your friend's friends.
Maybe you are replying directly to a comment upstream. How will that
person know you're replying to him/her if you don't tag them? Maybe
you've unsubscribed from notifications of new comments on the thread
- which I do when they are long and active with lots of participants I
don't know and I'm tired of the subject. How are you going to know
someone has replied to one of your comments without being tagged?
Like I said, FB gives you the notification and then it's up to you to
read and reply.

How are you going to email them if you aren't on their FB friends
list? My settings are for friends only and I don't want to "friend"
some stranger just so they can send me a private email. Ain't gonna
happen.
