I've melted lead for fishing weights in a smallish camp fire's embers. So
my guess is hotter than 500F. You can regulate the temperature by where in
the fire you put the pot. near the edge...not as hot. Burried in the middle
very hot. Also raking the embers to where you want/need them helps.
Sometimes you need them not to be near the pot othertime you need to
bury the pot in embers...
Supporting the pot over the coals might be one approach...don't use rocks.
They can explode possibly hurting you.
