The grocery stores here do it all the time just prior to closing. I have
had a few young and perhaps clueless guys hit me in the feet with a broom
there but they never came at me rapidly. In those cases it was more of an
accident. Tried to go around me but due to the wide design of the broom,
they failed.
My friend's husband is a janitor at Fred Meyers. They do all of that sort
of work after the store is closed except for as I said in another reply,
there is an accident that requires immediate attention.
