One of many misconceptions about trucking terms. Bobtailed...
shortened. Another is "semi"... refers to the to the trailer not the
truck (tractor). A trailer is a vehicle that is towed by a motor
vehicle. A semi trailer is one where a substantial amount of the weight
is supported by the tractor. Hence, the 5th wheel trailer hitch which is
mounted over the tractor's drive axles.
