That's a really hard way to learn that lesson, sorry that happened
to you.

It's also what your lawyer was supposed to warn you about, make
the ex sell the place if he couldn't get it financed under his name.
You wound up taking the hit anyway, as it turns out, even if he
couldn't sell it.
