When I had a flock of chickens (about 100) we did not wash our eggs. I too am of the school of thought that the protective coating put there by the hen is much better than dipping the eggs in bleach water and washing it off. There was rarely any dirt on any of the eggs because the nest boxes were up off the floor of the coop and we kept fresh straw in them. If there was an occasional dirty egg, we just wiped it with a towel.

We did refrigerate the eggs though. I sold them to a couple of restaurants in town.
