Somehow, this conjured up thoughts of a Soviet past, where for some
arbitrary reason, ginger was banned from Moscow (maybe Stalin had
hated it, and branded it counter-revolutionary), and folks traveling
to the capital stuffing their asses with ginger roots. Lord help
them if the KGB subjected them to a cavity search.

To this very day, many older Muscovites thank Comrade Khrushchev for
access to ginger that doesn't "taste like ass."
