I bet they fix the cats. They have the money to do it and most animal
shelters I know of will provide free or low cost spay and neutering
services. My mother had a mini-farm that was across the street from a
county park where people would dump their animals. She fed the cats
(took them in for a health check, spayed and neutered as soon as she
could catch them) because they helped keep the rodent population under
control. Cats don't last long in the wild. She found that 3-5 years
is average. Any feral cat over 5 is living a charmed life, because
they've usually slowed down enough by then to become fox or coyote
food.
