How do you peel an acorn squash?

An acorn squash would be difficult to peel, because of its shape.
Butternut squash is often peeled and cubed, though.
It is difficult for me to halve either one, even with the sharpest
knife, I do not have a lot of upper body strength. I will put them in
the microwave for 1-2 minutes, then they are easy to cut.
