I think most of the people on this street do keep things up. But the guy
next door is still going construction so that's very annoying.
But where my mom used to live, they had trouble with the two neighbors at
the bottom of the street. One has a lot of issues as in probably not all
there mentally. Some of her adult children live there off and on but one
has serious medical issues and just isn't physically able to do any work.
My mom paid her gardener to go clean up the yard and the guy was very
thankful. His dad, long since deceased was a house painter. So while their
house always had fresh paint on it, it always had at least 6 different
colors of paint! He painted it very randomly as well. The mom hired
someone to put faux rocks on part of the house and that looked nice. But
then she took it upon herself to do the same to the rest of the house. And
she had no clue what she was doing. She just slapped them on randomly.
Eventually she did hire someone to put the job right but it looked horrid
for many years.
Across the street from them, that home owner died many years ago. His son
who is my age would come by about once a year to attempt to clean up the
property. But in the meantime, it looked crappier and crappier. The city
had to get involved twice because of rats. The fence fell over, the gutters
were just hanging, trees decayed and falling all over. Abandoned vehicles
in the back yard.
I could not understand why the son didn't try to sell the house. He does
have a brother so the only thing I can figure is that perhaps the house was
left to both of them and the brother refuses to sell. They didn't try to
rent it out either. I would suspect there had to have been a house payment
and perhaps there still is. And they have to pay property taxes.
