I had the librarian try that with me when I was in the 3rd grade. I had
selected a book to check out from the 6th grade section. I had actually
already read pretty much every book there was in our school library from the
3rd grade section but had read them in prior years.

So she told me to come back in after school and if I could prove to her that
I could read the book, I could check it out. Well, not only did she let me
check it out, she gave me a job in the library! She said they had never let
someone so young work in there before but she thought I would be able to do
it. So I learned the Dewey Decimal System. I checked out books and
restocked them as they were returned.

I also decided to start a library in our house. My dad was always bringing
home weird stuff. I have no clue where he got some of this stuff. We
already had date stamps that he got from somewhere and some ink pads. I
figured that we didn't need to bother with the card catalog and all since we
probably only had a hundred or so books in the basement.

That lasted maybe a week or two before my mom got wind of it. Found my
cards (index cards) and weird little envelopes glued into some of the books.
We always had a ton of envelopes too. My mom kept a drawer full of greeting
cards so we would have them just in case.
