I would have several cocktails. The party games like Scattergories,
Taboo, Cranium, Trivial Pursuit are fun and get people loosened up. My
family is not high on hilarity either, but those games truly are
entertaining. They are usually on sale this time of year, so pick one
up and see how it goes. Watch holiday movies -- Planes, Trains and
Automobiles is hilarious with just a touch of sentimentality at the
end for good measure. I think decorating, putting up lights, etc. is
a great idea. Does anyone in the family need any work done on their
house like painting? Go Christmas shopping. Wrap presents. Everyone
bring all those old loose photographs to swap and put in albums.
Address Christmas cards. If you are bored stiff, go home! It's
better to have a little enjoyable time than lots of excrutiating time.
