Agree. In her area, power washing is a requirement if they want it to
last. Given the right conditions paint on stucco can last for 15-30
years around here looking perfect. It doesn't have that lasting
quality on wood though. We repaint every 7-10 years. The part of the
house with angles to the North look great, just in need of a serious
power wash - but the part facing due South is beaten and battered. I
want a new shade or color by that time anyway, so it's not a problem
for me and hubby goes on the hunt for a painting contractor.

Salt air is hard on house paint, sun is too. You also need to make
sure the roof and gutters are tight. Little problems can cause
blisters and eventual peeling even with a good power wash and diligent
scraping or burning it all off and starting over with 1-2 coats of
primer and ending with two finish coats (all high quality paint).
