I've lived in a clapboard home for 30+ years and highly recommend a
good prep job as the beginning of a good paint job. The power washer
blasts off a lot of loose paint, then the painters take a scraper and
remove more. Two paint jobs ago, we had the entire house "burned"
because the house was 75 years old by that time and I wanted to start
off with a good seal. We'd already taken 3 layers of old roofing off
to start from bare wood and it was time to do it with the paint too.
