That made me think of the open faced "sandwiches" we used to get at
diners and lunch counters. It was a slice or two of balloon bread on
a plate, a few slices of roast beef topped with a scoop of mashed
potatoes with a well where the gravy went but there was enough to
overflow and cover everything. I'd probably hate it now, but I sure
did like it back then.
