I have an uncle who _only_ wears hand knitted socks - when he was a
child, his mother made them for him, when he married, his mother-in-law
did. She hasn't made any for him in the last 2 or 3 years, but she's
pushing 106, so...
I prefer to wear handknits, too - they fit better, and are much more
comfortable than xx-Mart stuff.
