Surely he read that price wrong. I think food prices are higher both here
and where you are. Although... I could get canned green beans for 25 cents
a can in CA at both Walmart and Long's Drugs. They were not Angela's
favorite. For some reason she liked the Del Monte can so if she was
shopping with me, I would let her pick a can of those. She was young enough
that she didn't know what I was really serving her and apparently she
couldn't taste the difference. Just gawd forbid that I forgot the beans!
She had to have them with every lunch and dinner. If I forgot, she'd look
slighted and say, "Hey! Where's my beans?" Black olives were the other
thing that she had to have. I swear she could have lived off of those two
things alone when she was little.

Anyway... I was quite shocked when we moved to NY and discovered how pricey
canned foods were there. But I could get raw bell peppers for next to
nothing. As you can imagine, we ate a lot more raw peppers than we did
beans. By then she was taking lunch at school and they probably had no
beans. I just made sure that she had them with dinner.

Here, the major brands like Del Monte are $1.89 a can for green beans. We
eat the off brands. They've all been fine except for some kind of French
style that I got most likely at Big Lots. Some brand I had never heard of
and larger cans than I usually buy. They were like trying to twigs. Never
again.

I will try Big Lots again next week. They have a coupon out now. So maybe
I'll get lucky on the pears and I also need more tomato sauce.
