I once heard a great saying about cats and dogs:
Cats have Aspergers
Dogs have ADD
So very accurate and true IMO

Cats behaviour reminds me so much of autism/Aspergers, such as the
'Stand-offish' behaviour you mention. Dogs certainly have ADD... I
know mine does
