That is what we have in the self service checkouts. We do as you, pass the
item over the glass to be read.
The self scanners I described, are handsets taken around the shop by the
customer. Did you scroll right down to where it shows how the scanner
works? As you go around the store you scan the product barcode as you
shop. The handset tracks your spending too. It gives you a spending total
of everything you have scanned so far including promotions.
There is a button to remove an item if you change your mind and you can scan
through the items you have in the list when/if you want.
