It may be odd but it is indeed the law here in Scotland. The children must
have one third (between them) of moveable assets. There was talk of
stopping this 'Bairn's Share' law but I haven't heard anything about it for
a long time.
This is only in Scotland but there was a recent case in England, where a
mother had decreed that nothing was to be left for the daughter when she
died and a judge overruled it!!
