Supposed to be. I well remember getting one from a Safeway back in the 70's
that appeared to have a not very formed chick inside. This is why we used
to be instructed to break the eggs one at a time into a different bowl, then
add them to whatever we were making.
I could be wrong. The yellow part was sort of fuzzy looking. Not fuzzy as
in feathers but had fuzzy looking edges, had one red spot that appeared to
be where the eye would be and the shape was slightly like a chick.
I suppose it is possible that one might escape the candling process. I
believe that was still being used in those days. Not sure what they use
now.
