Cats rarely eat old carrion or swim in /drink dirty water or lick the
backside of stranger cats; dogs do all of those, which considerably
extends the range of infections they could pass on.

Cats' tongues are rough. Few people would tolerate a cat licking
their face the way they let their dogs do :-(
