Meatloaf was rarely served in our house. Every Sunday we had pot roast.
Your anecdotal data are no better than mine.
Perhaps Gary meant "quintessential American food", in which case I'd
have to go with the hamburger. There's no "The" traditional American
food. There are lots of them.
