Long Isalnd is The Suburbs but contains many, MANY farms and
financially they are doing very well... all kinds of farmland
surrounded by expensive subsivisions... there are typical farms like
potatoes, brussels sprouts, all kinds of squash, berries, cabbage,
most any crop one can think of. Then all the orchards; apples, plums,
peaches, apricots.nectarines, all sorts of stone fruit. And
relatively recently, wine grapes, major vineyards. And of course the
most prosperous of all, huge sod farms:
