Cherry Season
I have been keeping an eye on the local sour cherry orchards. One around
the corner from me looks like it is just about ready for harvest. We
were driving past it yesterday and I saw a strange side. There was a
flock of herring gulls flying around one corner of it. It is quite
common to see gulls flocking to fields that are being plowed or mowed,
but there was no tractor and nothing happening. There was one gull
perched in a tree and he appeared to be eating cherries. I didn't know
gull liked fresh fruit enough to eat it from a tree but what was more
curious was to see a web footed bird perched on a branch.
