I never see any dogs running loose here... a loose dog here would
never last the night. The sad thing is that vacationing summer people
get puppies for their kids and when they leave at the end of summer
they leave the dogs behind because they can't have them in their big
city apartments, the poor things become prey amd don't
last more than a few hours... dogs have no survival skills. Cats left
behind will quickly become part of a feral community, within a couple
three hous, cats are born with superb survival skills. Dogs can't
even hunt so even if they escaped becoming prey for a few days they
will starve to death. Dogs used to being fed have no ability to find
food in the wild. For cats the easiest thing is finding food, and
cats can climb out of danger... I've never seen a dog climb a tree. My
feral cats spend most of their time hunting or in my barn, they can
climb way up onto the catwalks as quickly as a squirrel, even when
they come into the barn the catwalks won't support critters larger
than a cat.
