Are you really telling me that if you had a job as a teen, they let you use
the phone? If that's so then all other places in this country are not like
they are here. I never had a job where I was allowed to freely use the
phone. Although I did do some reception and switchboard work so I
technically could do it.
But if you are the person on the register and there is no other counter
person... Do you really think it would be okay to leave to use the phone to
call home? I don't.
I never worked in a restaurant but I did work in a store. I had countless
days where I could not leave work at my scheduled hour. My parents learned
not to expect me to come home right away. If you are waiting on customers,
you can't just leave them there. And then there are things like
straightening up to do. No boss is going to allow you time to call home.
They want you to work!
