Most stores here employ a person or two that can do things like bagging if
necessary. They also clean up spills, get carts, check prices or anything
else that might need to be done. From what I can see, they are only doing
the bagging if not needed for something else and usually only for large
orders. For the most part, the cashier does the bagging unless it is a bag
your own place.

When I worked at K Mart, we only employed baggers for about a two week
period prior to and perhaps for a few days after Christmas. We were often
busier after the holiday than before.
