As usual, lists like this are sweeping generalizations written by
someone who apparently is worried about everyone getting fat.
I buy sugar, sure. To make "nectar" for the hummingbird feeder. I
don't eat sugar-laden food. (Maybe all the fat people out there should
stop supporting Dunkin' Donuts while pretending they are only there for
the coffee. Heh.)
Don't use heavy cream?! I certainly will if a recipe calls for it.
It's doubtful it will be a huge amount in any case. I might use half &
half instead if that's what I have on hand. But hey, it's not as if I'm
sitting around drinking heavy cream.
I'm not a big fan of rice, but on the rare occasions I cook it I don't
think about replacing it with something like quinoa. (Can you imagine
'Red Beans & Quinoa'? LOL) Just wait a few years... there will be some
new "study" saying quinoa is bad for you.
The peanut butter I buy contains two ingredients: peanuts and salt.
(Salt is another thing I don't worry about.)
I eat very little pasta but when I want something like spaghetti I use
plain pasta. It's the base for the meal; the pasta isn't what is
important (to me), it's the sauce/seasonings. Chickpea pasta? Good
luck finding that around here. Ditto "zoodles" (zucchini pasta). And
no, I won't bother making my own.
My 2 cents, which due to inflation is now 5 cents.
Jill
